Education Licensure Information for Texas
Here is what you need to know.
Become an Educator in Texas
American College of Education (ACE) is excited to help you start or advance your education career in Texas. Whether you want to start teaching in the classroom or leading a school, we have affordable and flexible programs to help you make it happen.
Teaching in Texas
You could complete an initial teacher licensure program from ACE and apply it to Texas’s out-of-state licensure requirements to obtain your Texas teaching license.
Texas requires teacher candidates educated at an out-of-state school to hold an out-of-state teaching license before applying for a Texas license. As such, Texas residents who complete ACE’s initial teacher licensure programs will first be licensed in ACE’s home state of Indiana.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) conducts credential reviews to determine whether an applicant’s certification, teaching experience and exams align with Texas standards. Applicants with no teaching experience will be required to submit Texas exams for certification. For information about test exemption criteria, please visit TEA’s out-of-state educator test exemption page.
