The Master of Public Health (MPH) prepares public health professionals, leaders, and managers in health organizations to develop, implement, and evaluate public health programs and services. This program is designed for leaders and professionals with a public health background. Leadership and management competencies as well as epidemiology, biostatistics, disaster readiness and response, public health assessment, ethics, health economics, budgeting, and health disparities will be emphasized in the curriculum. The program has a built-in practicum component where students can gain real world experience and apply the program competencies in a supervised professional setting.

This course is designed to acclimate the student to the process of operationalizing informatics to address critical public health concerns impacting individuals, families, communities, and the environment in which they reside. Students will analyze public health data and the use of advanced technologies to synthesize data in support of public health surveillance and research. Informatics and its role in improving public health outcomes in diseases such as cancer will be explored.
This course will evaluate the influence of leadership theory and principles in public health settings. Emphasis will be placed on cultural competency and organizational change leadership. Students will explore communications strategy, team development, and program evaluation methodologies.
In this course, students will analyze critical epidemiological concepts including prevalence, incidence, and risk. Students will also study the application of research methods relative to design, data collection, analysis, and summarization. This course will allow students to develop research skills in the area of public health.
Students in this course will be introduced to the complex legal and ethical landscape in the area of public health. Students will explore the ever-evolving role of law and ethics in the public health sector. Moreover, students will analyze the efforts to balance individual rights with the need for government intervention in protecting the public health.
In this course, students will evaluate the financial principles of healthcare accounting and resource management in public health organizations. Various concepts of healthcare finance, including budgeting, valuation, capital expenditure, and financial reporting, will be studied.
This course will examine the social determinants of health and the factors that contribute to health disparities. Students will focus on various behavioral determinants of health and health consequences. In addition, students will compare logic models and evaluation plans used in public health settings.
In this course, students will investigate the effectiveness of communication strategies in public health entities. Students will explore promotional planning, interpersonal communications, and the impact of the health consumerism movement on health literacy using health assessment tools.
In this course, the biological foundations of disease will be examined. Risk factors and modes of transmission for infectious and non- infectious diseases, and their effects on health, will be emphasized. Biology and disease risk, and its influence in public health law and policy, will be explored.
This course is the culmination of the concepts, theories, and practical applications of concepts studied throughout the program. Students will be afforded an opportunity to integrate, synthesize, analyze and apply their curricula knowledge to real-life challenges in public health.
This course examines historical and current trends in healthcare policy and its relationship to health outcomes and the decision making process for healthcare administrators, policy makers, and practitioners. Students will examine how healthcare policies are created, developed, and evaluated at the local, state, and national level. The relationship between healthcare policy and delivery, as well as economic, legal, and liability concerns, will be analyzed.
This course will address how to collect, analyze and utilize data for decision-making purposes. Learners will explore a range of research approaches, including formative and summative research, to examine how to determine the best fit for their program needs. Students will be expected to demonstrate a working knowledge of research methods and analyze service statistics to make informed choices regarding quality improvement for health related programs.
