Become an Educator in Ohio

Teaching in Ohio

You could complete an initial teacher licensure program from ACE and apply it to Ohio’s out-of-state licensure requirements to obtain your Ohio teaching license. For the most current information about becoming a teacher in Ohio, please check the Ohio State Board of Education website


Leadership and Administration in Ohio

Our M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Certificate in Principal Preparation programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education as preparatory programs for those seeking Ohio Building Principal Licenses (grades pre-K-6, grades 4-9 and grades 5-12).

You must satisfy these additional requirements, including: 

  • Obtaining a recommendation from the ACE Certification Officer upon successful completion of the principal preparation program
  • Passing the Ohio Assessment for Educators 015 Educational Leadership licensure exam, prescribed by the Ohio State Board of Education
  • Two years of successful teaching experience under a standard teaching license (or work experience under a professional pupil services license) for the ages and grade levels in which you seek principal licensure

TESOL K-12 Endorsement in Ohio

The following ACE programs are approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education as leading to the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) K-12 endorsement:

You must satisfy additional requirements, including:

  • Obtaining a recommendation from the ACE Certification Officer upon successful completion of the program
  • Passing the Ohio Assessment for Educators 121 English to Speakers of Other Languages licensure exam, prescribed by the Ohio State Board of Education
  • 50 or more clock hours of teaching experience with English language learners
  • An internship wavier is available for individuals who can provide documentation of this teaching experience
