Leadership in New York

You could complete ACE’s M.Ed. in Educational Leadership or Certificate in Principal Preparation (if you already possess a master’s degree) and apply it to New York’s out-of-state licensure requirements to obtain your School Building Leader initial certificate in New York.

Per NYSED, New York residents who complete an administration program at a college in another state must complete a comparable, approved principal-level school administration program, which includes at least 21 semester hours of graduate-level coursework in school leadership, plus a comparable administrative internship.

ACE’s Certificate in Principal Preparation consists of 21 credit hours, including the internship. Prospective students from New York who apply will be enrolled in a version of the program that includes an additional course to meet NYSED certification requirements, which increases the cost and time to completion of the program from what’s listed on the program’s page. To learn more about the New York version of this certificate, reach out to our Enrollment team at [email protected] or call 800-280-0307, option 2.

After you complete your ACE program, you will need to take the following steps:

  1. Submit an application and fee for an Initial certificate via TEACH Online Services
  2. Provide official transcripts for an evaluation
  3. Register for and take the required certification exam for School Building Leader
