Education Licensure Information for Florida

Here is what you need to know.

Become an Educator in Florida

American College of Education (ACE) is excited to help you start or advance your education career in Florida. Whether you want to start teaching in the classroom or leading a school, we have affordable and flexible programs to help you make it happen.

Teaching in Florida

You could complete an initial teacher licensure program from ACE and apply it to Florida’s out-of-state licensure requirements to obtain your Florida teaching license.

ACE’s programs meet the Florida requirements for out-of-state teacher preparation programs for initial certification, which are that: 

  • The program area is also a subject in which Florida offers certification 
  • The training is completed at the same degree level required in Florida for that subject

If you are a graduate of an approved out-of-state teacher preparation program, you will likely qualify for a Temporary Florida Educator’s Certificate. The Temporary Certificate allows you to begin teaching full-time while you complete the certification exams for the Professional Certificate.

Leadership in Florida

Our M.Ed. in Educational Leadership program has been approved by the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Educator Certification, as a preparatory program for applying for Certification in Educational Leadership. This makes you eligible to receive certification as a school principal in Florida.

You must satisfy additional requirements, including: 

  • Providing official transcripts documenting all applicable coursework 
  • Passing the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) content licensure exam (scores must be provided to the ACE Registrar prior to applying for certification)

Our Florida Modified for Educational Leadership program has also been approved by the Florida Department of Education, Bureau of Educator Certification, as a preparatory program for applying for Certification in Educational Leadership. Those who take this program must satisfy all the same additional requirements as above, as well as have a completed master’s degree in another area.

English for Speakers of Other Languages Endorsement in Florida

The following ACE programs can be applied to Florida’s requirements to add an English for Speakers of Other Languages endorsement to your Florida license:
