In celebration of its fourth anniversary as a Certified B Corporation, American College of Education will kick off the “ACE Day of Service” campaign in September to further encourage the broader ACE family to give back to their communities in new ways.

Any time during the month of September, all ACE alumni, students, staff and faculty are encouraged to choose a day to volunteer with nonprofit organizations or charities in their communities, then celebrate and share that voluntarism on social media. Employing the hashtag #ACEDayofService, the campaign will highlight the ways in which the ACE community lives the college’s mission and core values.

“We are thrilled to announce our first institution-wide Day of Service,” ACE President Dr. Shawntel Landry said. “As a college that serves those who serve others, giving back is fundamental to who we are as an institution, and it is ingrained in the DNA of our students. We hope our students and alumni will join us in this celebration of ACE’s commitment to our B Corp mission and to the communities in which we live and work.”

To amplify the impact of the Day of Service, ACE will make a monetary donation to the charity of choice of five randomly chosen participants in the campaign.

ACE as a B Corp
ACE was first certified as a B Corp in September 2016. As businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose, B Corps form a community of leaders and drive a global movement of people using business as a force for good. ACE’s current B Corp Certification extends through 2022.

“As a certified B Corp, we commit to our employees, students, communities and even the environment that we’re going to remain relentless in our quest to be a business as a force for good,” said KK Byland, vice president of human resources for ACE. “Day in and day out, we’re working to be as sustainable and community minded as possible. We take pride in being a force for good, a bright spot in the communities where we live and work.”

In 2019 alone, ACE faculty and staff completed 1,463 individual civic hours, donated 800,000 individual school supplies, donated 130 meals through Feeding America, and donated 711 toiletry items for the Ronald McDonald House. ACE hopes to make an even bigger impact in 2020 by encouraging students and alumni to participate as well.

How to participate
Any time during the month of September, ACE encourages all alumni, students, faculty and staff to post a picture of themselves on social media volunteering at their chosen organization with the hashtag #ACEDayofService, tagging American College of Education on the relevant social media platform (Twitter: @ACEedu, Instagram: @ace_edu, Facebook: @AmericanCollegeofEducation and LinkedIn: @American College of Education). For those who do not use social media or would prefer to keep their social media accounts private, participate by sending your photo to [email protected].

ACE will randomly choose five students or alumni when the campaign ends and make a monetary donation to the charity of their choice on their behalf.
