INDIANAPOLIS (November 12, 2018) – 97 winning worksites. 35 states. Two local standouts.

Topping the list alongside Carmel-based HR consulting group, Purple Ink, LLC., American College of Education (ACE) is one of two Indiana employers to receive the prestigious 2018 When Work Works Award.

Presented by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the When Work Works Award recognizes companies across the country who are making a splash with progressive workplace policies. In applying for the award, ACE was evaluated on factors associated with learning opportunities, job autonomy, work-life balance, supervisor and co-worker support, satisfaction with wages, benefits and advancement opportunities, and a culture of respect, trust and belonging.

“These organizations developed HR policies and programs to support and maintain this environment, and they are reaping the benefits with increased retention, productivity, and overall success for their investment,” said Lisa Horn, SHRM vice president, Congressional Affairs.

In ACE’s case, that means opportunities for remote work, paid parental leave, civic hours, and tuition assistance. Per Vice President of Human Resources and B Corp Benefits Officer KK Byland, those policies are merely a reflection of the college’s commitment to B Corp, a growing movement dedicated to corporate social responsibility. “Creating flexible, innovative work spaces allows our employees to do their jobs to the best of their abilities without the stress of imbalance. This win is a testament to what we do every day—for our students, employees, and communities—and we’re proud to join the ranks of the 2018 winners.”

Acknowledging the positive trickle-down effects of employee satisfaction, ACE President Dr. Shawntel Landry said: “We are honored to receive this recognition, as the impact of our positive culture is felt directly by our students. We have witnessed the correlation: as our faculty and staff satisfaction has increased, so has our student satisfaction and ultimately our student and staff referral rates. You simply cannot underestimate the impact of a positive working culture directly on your daily work.”
