ACE helps bring ‘School Tools’ to California teachers

Imagine a world where schools were amply equipped; where educators didn’t have to penny-pinch to stock their classrooms; where students had the basic tools they need to blossom.

ACE has long envisioned such a world, but our mission has never been about dreaming. It’s about doing.

In accordance with that mission and in collaboration with Inland Empire United Way and School Tools, one of the college’s seven non-profit partners, ACE recently participated in a supply drive for Ramona Communication Arts Academy in Montclair, Calif.

ACE Regional Enrollment Liaison T’Shara Parker, who was on-site for the drive, estimated that 25-30 teachers attended the event. “The (original) count was 41,” she said. “However, not all teachers were there. Some were absent or had tutoring, so another teacher came to collect their supplies. They were so excited and thankful, and kept saying how grateful they were and how grateful the children would be.”

The Oct. 19 drive was one of three of School Tools’ Mobile Outreach events. In total, ACE has contributed $3,000 in donations and $5,000 in sponsorships toward these events.

Monica Carson, senior vice president of ACE’s enrollment operations, said the mobile outreach programs typically provide enough supplies for an educator to support their classroom needs for at least a month, if not more. “It makes me extremely proud,” she said. 

“Not only do we have an opportunity to give back to educators, we also have the ability to impact a child and their ability to succeed in the classroom.”

The events also mark a watershed moment for students in another way, offering an opportunity for their teachers to augment their own learning.

Parker, who handed out shopping totes during the drive, also presented information about ACE’s accelerated programs, as well as the college’s partnership with the district, which includes a tuition discount for district teachers interested in earning their advanced degrees.

“It felt wonderful,” she said. “I absolutely loved this event and being part of something so awesome where you could feel the excitement and appreciation in the room. I just wish we had the ability to help more teachers in the same way.”
